Katie Kits being used, 143 Miles & $1200, and a Fall Bonfire

First off, wanted to let you know that we got word back from one woman, Nancy, who just LOVES her Katie Kit.  As Katie herself fine-tuned what things helped her get through radiation treatment, Nancy is very appreciative of all the items.  The vanilla fragrance roll-on works wonderfully to calm her, for even a self-described anxious person.  The tote bag with Katie’s artwork looks beautiful and is big enough to stow a blanket that a friend quilted for her.  The comfy eye-mask in conjunction with music playing in her headphones, make it so she can forget where she is during treatment.  And the vitamin E and Aloe lotion caplets work so well on her affected skin areas, that Nancy thinks we should update the included “instruction sheet” to indicate just how well this works.

We are sorry that cancer continues to impact more people, but we glad that the Katie Kits are helping women (and men who want one too) during a tough point in their cancer treatment.  Being breast cancer awareness month, this is especially poignant for women dealing with breast cancer, but the kits are going to all types of cancer.

I’ve set up a Katie Kit Recipients page in case any recipients want to leave us a note on how they are using their Katie Kit, and to allow everyone to see how your donations are being put into action.

43 Katie Kits and Counting

A heartfelt thank you to all of you who donated and purchased Katie K merchandise since we started fundraising in Feb 2013, enabling us starting in August 2015 to donate 30 Katie Kits, and 3 iPod Nanos for the 2 treatment and 1 simulation rooms.

And then in support of my 143 mile, two-day bike ride on Sept 26 & 27th, we had both repeat donors, and new folks who both donated and purchased merchandise.  (The first day’s route was only 68 miles, not the “advertised” 75.)   With all of your kindness, we raised another $1200 which will let us buy 13 more Katie Kits to distribute at the clinic.  Simply amazing!

I hope to do this again next Sept to continue the efforts to supply more Katie Kits, but if you still wanted to contribute in a way to this year’s effort see the Project Details page any time.

October Bonfire

On last Sunday, Jodi and Brett were kind enough to host a small bonfire gathering at their house.  We snacked a little in the dining room, and then made our way out the deck to sit around the fire and be together.  Wonderful evening for everyone to catch up and remembering Katie and Chuck.  I just love seeing these people on a semi-regular basis.  Katie had great friends near and far, and it’s nice to be able to keep in touch with you all.

With Fall upon us, I hope that you all are enjoying the crisper air.  May you all keep on letting your own lights shine, and warming yourself with bonfires and candles wherever you may be.

Peace and Love,
Ashby
