This page had allowed people to send well wishes and thoughts to Katie when she was still with us.
Sadly, she peacefully left us on July 13th, 2014. If you still wish to tell Katie something, I am sure she can still hear you.
Please read on below to see the comments of the love Katie received from you all….
What an amazing website! It is truly a tribute to your remarkable life. I am completely inspired. And to see all of your artwork on page page, totally awesome! I too am deeply grateful for our friendship, from the day we met on the first day of grad school.
Ashby, this is very impressive. You did a remarkable job. What a tribute to the amazing person we both love.
What a wonderful way to give and receive thoughts, feelings, and information. I love the website. Kudos to Ashby! I love you because there is no one else like you.
Hello Katie Aces. When I saw a link to your artwork, I just KNEW I’d click and see circles! It’s beautiful and so YOU. I’m looking forward to getting a piece through your Give Back Project when it’s available. Hey, the APA site visitors were just in and they asked us to pull specific dissertations for their review. We were SO GLAD they picked yours. I was reminded of what a great contribution you made with your research. Susan and I were recently cracking up about how we took your visitors from Germany downtown to the Coney Island and they thought they were going to eat “hot dogs” as is sweaty canines! 🙂 Anyway, I got your response to my email and will give you a call. And I will be following you here. Take care, XXOO, Fran.
I just looked at every photo and video and am so blown away, thank you Ashby! So happy to have this to be part of your life, even from far away. I have to teach Josh “One Little Latke”! Hearing your voice was the highlight of my week! Happy Valentine’s Day. Love you!
I like this a million times!! What a brilliant gift to all of us who love you and many more who will stumble upon this site and fall in love with you, too. Your incredible artwork is spellbinding, Katie…I linger at the details, entranced. Nate ( the Hanukkah beat- boxer), and Hiney (the handsome hound )are already stealing the show on the video page. I’m simply overjoyed at this place where I can go to connect with you and know that it won’t disturb your rest or steal from your time with Nate. Bravo to you and Ashby. I look forward to checking in often. Love you so much. Happy Valentines Day.
Katie, your art shows your creativity and your unique way of seeing the world; your picture with Nate shows your power to love; and this website shows your power to accept love. Thanks for putting yourself out there.
This is gorgeous! Yay! Such a great resource and loads to see. Love you! xo Rack
this picture is perfect because your spirit shines through! Thank you so much for sharing this website!!
I miss your beautiful face!!!! And Mr. Nake (remember that’s what Bella used to call him?) is so handsome and so big!! Lots of love!!!
Belated Happy Valentine’s Day, Sweetheart. You have so much to give. I take something helpful or positive away from every conversation I have with you.
Katie… Amazing! So wonderful to be able to share in your journey. Beautiful.
Love you and thinking of you! Thank you for creating this site and allowing us to be present for you in a way that is most comfortable and we can show how much you mean to us all. The videos, pictures, are wonderful and your artwork is beautiful!
Love to you my friend. I think of you so often. You do look FAB!
Katie Aces 🙂
I just got this link from Colletty Spaghetti. I’m so glad she sent it.
I’ve been wondering about you from time to time. I’m sending my deepest love and wishes to you.
Things are going great on my end. I’ve opened a group practice in Royal Oak and it’s going so well, I keep thinking it must be a mistake 🙂
I’m out here thinking of and pulling for – You!
XO and love,
I really enjoyed spending time with you tonight…witnessing your art in the making and just
talking. I hope you will have me over again VERY soon! Next time I’ll walk Hine first! I love you XO
What a wonderful tribute to you, Katie! A chance to celebrate your extraordinary gift of love, your energy and dedication, your initiative and sense of justice, your creativity and spontaneity, and your great generosity of spirit. Here’s to you, Katie–you are in my heart.
What a beautiful site! Katie, I didn’t know that you were such a talented artist. I love you and am so glad to learn about all the different parts of your life.
Hope you and Lev are doing well. The art work emerged as a result of being stuck in bed most of the time. It has evolved into something bigger…would love to connect to Jonathon’s brother and a link to his art…does he have a web page if so send it and I will link to it. I think he is amazingly talented!
Thanks so much for giving your self to us with such a wonderful website and utterly stunning artwork. These pieces are truly beautiful and reflect the beauty within you. Here’s a little poem that reminds me of what you are doing, being present, digging up just what you need:
Birding at Elk Horn Slough
How is it we learn the difference
Between naming and being present
The way the Avocet, in our scope up close,
Knows how to brandish her long tenuous beak
Waggling it to and fro through the tidal mudflats,
Surrounded, as she is, by the multitude of
Buffleheads, Ruddy Ducks, Scaups,
Scoters, Grebes, Plovers & Willets
To dig up precisely what she needs?
Wish I was better at keeping everything we wrote back in the day.
Just the other night, The Last Temptation of Christ was on cable. I told my son about the time you and I went to see it and you insisted on talking to and debating the religious right who had never seen the movie but were picketing and protesting in front of the theatre.
Katie, you’ve always been a little sister to me. You know, a little sister I wanted to make out with but i couldn’t because she was dating my best friend. Also, she was my little sister.
I remember a conversation you told me about when I was 18 and you were 16 and we were in Israel together. Someone told you I was anti-social and mean and you defended me. You said “What are you talking about? Steve is SO nice.” And they said “Well, he’s nice to you, Katie, because he likes you. To the rest of us, he’s an anti-social bastard.”
I’m paraphrasing, but that’s pretty close.
Well the good news is that I’ve only become more anti-social and more of a bastard. And the other good news is that I’m still pretty nice to the few people I love, and you’re still one of them. Some things never change. Remember when Robin Miller called you the sunshine of our trip? Your smile still lights up your whole face, the whole room, and this dark, cob-webbed corner of my soul that few people reach any more. And you’re still dating my best friend.
Different friend, but how lucky you both are really. You have brought him sunshine, and I am inspired by this site he has made for you. What am amazing thing, I am truly, TRULY so proud to call both of you my good friends.
I am enjoying browsing all your art, all your photos, and am working on digging up more memories.
Katie, there are few people I’ve been closer to than you, and there are few moments that were better than those endless, humid midnights in Jerusalem with you and Jon. The older I get, the more I truly appreciate who you are, how truly beautiful you are, how rare and lucky I am to have this bond with you, in that years can pass between us and we are still just as close, and you are still just as loved.
Who knew the 6th grade girl in the olive drab sweater (puke green? split pea?), the one struggling to get out her “leads and reds” per Crenshaw’s orders, would turn out to be such a source of courage and light for the world? Well, I did, of course! Katieface, you were always able to see past my outer geek…and directly into my inner geek. For this and for so many things, I thank you. Your sunflower face and gigawatt smile will forever be with me. I am so grateful for having had the opportunity to know you, and I am so proud of you, your humanitarian instincts and your boundless wonder and love.
Thank you for you beautiful sentiments. I never saw any “geekiness” in you. Only a warm funny and introspective guy who I could talk to for hours on the phone. You always found a way to make me laugh. We solved all the problems of the world laying in the grass staring at the stars up on hip hill. We watched as they built 696 and ambled around all the back hoes and dump trucks.
Thank you Katie for sharing your courageous journey with us. You are a true inspiration and beautiful person. My prayers are with you and sending my Pi Phi love.
Katie, Just read your quote about “accepting the unacceptable.” Wow that really means so much to me as Ive had to learn to accept thinks that were literally unthinkable to me, even in my worst nightmares, a few years ago. Ive learned that it is grace or something we can’t understand that allows us to eventually accept, if not make peace with what life throws at us.
K-We had such a good long talk tonight. It was just what I needed. Enjoy a wonderful time with Nate over the next two days – I know how sweet it will be to have him back. I’ll talk to you this weekend. Love
This is my second time on the site and it is so rich. What a wonderful place. I loved the Chuck slide show especially some of the pics of your family and the Carnicks. All the pictures were loving and special. The Katie art and merchandise page are great (I’ll be back to buy). I enjoyed reading about Project Give Back and reading your early March blog entry. This is clearly a labor of love from you and all those around you.
I am so pleased to have found this fabulous website dedicated to you, your beautiful son and your wonderful life and accomplishments. It is great to read your full story and to have these regular updates. You look wonderful and your spirit and love are just shining through. Dennis and I will never be able to truly thank you for all you have done for us. You more than anyone else helped us through a very scary time in our lives. We felt pretty helpless but you showed us that with hard work and perseverance, it would work out. We love you and feel so lucky to have found you (thanks Dr. Solomon!).
PS. I showed Ethan your pictures and he said, “Yes, I remember her. She is very pretty.” 😉
Hey Katie. We thought of you today! The girls are doing well. Mags is 11 and Gilly is 8. We recently moved to Saline and are enjoying small town life. I hope you are doing well and feeling strong! Thinking of you! Love the Van Singels.
I find myself thinking of you often and miss seeing your smiling face. I hope you are hanging in there and enjoying that beautiful 5 year old boy…he is adorable and seems full of life 🙂 miss you!!
It has been far too long since we spoke (and I was really sad that we couldn’t get together the last time) but I hold you in my heart every day (and on my guilty mind!). You have more than ‘accepted the unacceptable’, you have transformed the unacceptable into an extraordinary, creative, and inspiring life and, through your example, you have become a heart-source and mentor to all who suffer. Way to live Katie! I so honor and respect how you are.
Hi Katie. Thinking of you today and often. With love, Fran
You have entered my thoughts all day today and as I finally sit down at the computer, I realize that it is June 30th and I believe that is your birthday. I hope you have had a relaxing, wonderful day filled with family, friends and happiness 🙂 Thinking of you and Happy Birthday!
Katie you are sunshine. Such an incredible woman, mother, daughter and sister. Katie for you today continue to fill your mind with truth, your heart with love, and your life with service (it’s always been your purpose). Another birthday Katie and we your friends and family receive the gift (you). Katie you are truly loved and adored.
